Elephant Aid International

Mission: "To end the worldwide suffering of elephants by creating innovative approaches to the care and management of elephants in captivity."

Elephant Aid International works to reshape the public's view on elephants, how owners and trainers treat their elephants, and how elephants are treated in captivity. Almost all of the captive elephants in Asia are forced to work, exposed to the harsh sun and intense heat for hours on end. They are used for grass collection, tourist activities, patrols in national parks, and many other strenuous tasks.

The work done by EAI is hands-on; they work directly with NGOs, government and research officials, and mahouts (elephant handlers) in Asia to improve elephant welfare, both in captivity and in the wild. They also keep the wellbeing of mahouts in mind and strive to ensure their livelihoods are not put at risk.

Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation

Mission: "To protect and preserve the African elephant."

Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation is a leading organization in wildlife protection and conservation. They were founded in 2000, and built the Elephant Havens Orphanage in Botswana, where orphaned and abandoned elephants receive care until they can return to the wild. They also work to resolve the conflict between elephants and local communities; some elephants may trample enough crops to devastate a farmer's livelihood, causing tension between the species. Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation works to establish a prosperous habitat for both elephants and the humans that coexist with them!

ElephantVoices

Mission: "To inspire wonder in the intelligence, complexity, and voices of elephants, and to secure a kinder future for them."

ElephantVoices draws on over 40 years of knowledge to speak on behalf of endangered elephants around the world. Their work is centered around their CARE model: Conservation, Advocacy, Research, and Education. They are firm believers that elephants require protection both as a species and as individuals – each one deserves attention specific to their case.

In 2011, they launched a program called "Elephant Partners" among the Maasai Mara ecosystem in Kenya. Citizens protect and monitor elephants by providing wildlife authorities with information about the elephants' movements through the Maasai land.

Save the Elephants

Mission: "To secure a future for elephants and sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places they live, to promote man's delight in their intelligence and the diversity of their world, and to develop a tolerant relationship between the two species."

Save the Elephants’ headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya. They were founded in 1993 by Iaian Douglas-Hamilton, and they have since made the Samburu elephant population one of the most studied, understood elephants in the world! They launched the Elephant Crisis Fund in 2013, to help fund and support other organizations that work to end poaching, elephant trafficking, and the demand for ivory. The ECF, under the umbrella of Save the Elephants, has funded over 170 projects and supported over 60 organizations in 31 different countries across Asia and Africa – and 100% of donated funds go straight to the field!

The Monkey and the Elephant

Mission: "A coffee shop where an ordinary purchase creates extraordinary impact."

While it is not a wildlife conservation organization, The Monkey and the Elephant does fantastic work in their community. They are a non-profit coffee shop in Philadelphia, PA that serves former foster youth in the local system. The coffee shop provides employment opportunities to former foster youth who may not have a clear direction of what their next steps are, nor any marketable skills to fall back on. The young adults work shifts in the café to gain work experience and complete a program to develop their professionalism, critical thinking, and communication skills. The Monkey and the Elephant gives at-risk youth a solid chance at a secure future.
